EAST VIEW was the name of the Westchester estate of James Butler, the founder of Empire City racetrack, which was located on the current site of Yonkers Raceway. Not run in 1911, 1912, 1913, 1915, nor from 1953 to 1978. The race has been restricted to New York-breds since its renewal in 1978. Distance of five and a half furlongs in 1910; about six furlongs from 1914 to 1928; five and three-quarter furlongs from 1929 to 1942; six furlongs from 1943 to 1947, and in 1950. For colts and geldings prior to 1951. Run at Jamaica from 1943 to 1946, and from 1948 to 1953; at Belmont Park in 1947. Run at one mile from 1982 to 1986, and in 1993. Run on the turf in 1993. In 1921, Runstar finished first but was disqualified. In 1950, Win or Lose won, but was disqualified several days after the race, when it was found he carried an incorrect weight assignment.
