The IROQUOIS is named for the confederacy of North America Indians, which was founded in the 16th Century. The Iroquois resided in the region that is now included in central New York State. Run at a mile and an eighth prior to 1981; at one mile from 1981 to 1984, and in 1988; a mile and 70 yards from 1985 to 1987; at six furlongs from 1989 to 1993; and at seven furlongs from 1994 through the present. Run at Aqueduct in 1996.
