The JAIPUR is named for the George D. Widener champion three-year-old of 1962. The dark bay colt won perhaps the most sensational Travers ever, when he nosed out Ridan in a duel that was nose to nose for the full 1 1/4 miles. In 1962, Jaipur's campaign was not confined to beating three-year-olds. He ran an extremely creditable second to Kelso in the 1962 Woodward. Run at seven furlongs from 1986 to 2005. Run at six furlongs in 1984 and 1985. Run in two divisions in 1986, 1994, and 1995. Run on the main track prior to 1987, and again in 1992.
