The VOSBURGH honors the late Walter S. Vosburgh, official handicapper for The Jockey Club and various racing associations, including the New York racetracks from 1894 to 1934. Vosburgh was also a turf historian and writer of note, until his death in 1938. Mr. Vosburgh assigned the weights for the first Experimental Free Handicap in 1933.
The VOSBURGH was run at Aqueduct in 1959, 1961 to 1974, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1983, 1985, and 1986. It was run as the Vosburgh Handicap prior to 1979. In 1951, Miche finished first, but was disqualified. Run for all ages prior to 1958. Dead heat in 1944.
