The MOTHER GOOSE is the first leg in the newly designed New York Filly Triple Tiara; the series, which was redesigned in 2003, concludes with the Coaching Club American Oaks and the Alabama Stakes at Saratoga. The Mother Goose is named after Harry Payne Whitney's filly who defeated the colts in the 1924 Futurity. She is one of only 13 fillies to have won the Futurity since it was first run in 1888.

The MOTHER GOOSE was run at a mile and a sixteenth in 1957 and 1958. Run at Aqueduct from 1963 to 1967, in 1969, and in 1975.
