The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has become the first racetrack operator in the United States to offer year-round Spanish language race calls, hiring Luis Grandison to provide live calls in Spanish at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course.

Grandison, a 57-year-old Panama native, called races at El Hipódromo Presidente Remón in Panama City from 1978 – 2003. His extensive sports broadcasting experience also includes stints with ABC Radio, KW Continente and Radio Pan-Americana.

“Luis is a talented and enthusiastic individual, and we are thrilled to hire him as the first year-round Spanish language thoroughbred racing announcer in the United States,” said NYRA CEO and President Chris Kay. “Our sport has a very large and dedicated following in the Hispanic and Latino communities, and this important initiative will help enhance and personalize the guest experience for our Spanish speaking fan base.”

Before Thursday’s first race at Aqueduct, scheduled for 1:20 p.m. EDT, NYRA Race Caller Tom Durkin will introduce Grandison, who will provide a Spanish call of the race to the entire NYRA network.

“I am very excited to be the new Spanish race caller for Aqueduct, Belmont Park, and Saratoga,” Grandison said. “This is a great way to make races from these terrific racetracks more accessible to Spanish speakers around the world.”

NYRA’s Spanish race calls are available on-track at Aqueduct via channel 3.2 (HD) or channel 19 (SD).

NYRA has also partnered with Roberts Communications Network to make Grandison’s calls available via the following platforms:

The Racetrack Television Network (RTN) will also carry the Spanish language option for the NYRA live simulcast, available to residential subscribers of the television package on DISH Network as well as RTN’s online packages – desktop, tablet and mobile. Additional details are available at www.rtn.tv.

In the coming months, NYRA will make the Spanish race calls available in a variety of locations and across multiple platforms.
