The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) Board of Directors focused on the search for a new Chief Executive Officer on Wednesday during its third meeting, and also announced the formation of a task force to articulate a long-term vision for the organization.

Meeting in Manhattan, the Board discussed its search for a new Chief Executive Officer, and authorized NYRA to enter into a contract with RSR Partners to conduct a search for that individual.

Also on Wednesday, Chair David Skorton announced the formation of a task force charged with developing a long-term plan for NYRA. Board members Bobby Flay and Michael Dubb will co-chair, and Michael DelGuidice, and Rick Cotton will sit on this task force along with NYRA staff members.

The Board also heard reports from NYRA President and COO Ellen McClain, the Compensation Committee, the Public Hearings and Communications Committee, and the Equine Safety Committee. Based on a recommendation from Anthony Bonomo, Chair of the Equine Safety Committee, the Board voted to authorize NYRA to arrange for necropsies on all equine fatalities occurring at NYRA facilities. Previously necropsies were routinely conducted only on racing fatalities.

In total, the Board today:

  • Voted to authorize NYRA management to enter into a contract with RSR Partners to conduct a search for a Chief Executive Officer.

  • Voted to authorize NYRA to arrange for necropsies on all equine fatalities occurring at NYRA facilities.

  • Voted to authorize NYRA to extend the 2-year-old bonus program initiated in 2012.
