EAST VIEW was the name of the Westchester estate of James Butler, the founder of Empire City racetrack, which was located on the current site of Yonkers Raceway.
Not run 1911-13, 1915, and 1953-78. The race has been restricted to New York-breds since 1978. Distance of 5 ½ furlongs in 1910; about six furlongs 1914-28; 5 3/4 furlongs 1929-42; and six furlongs 1943-47 and 1950. For colts and geldings prior to 1951. Run at Jamaica 1943-46 and 1948-53, and at Belmont Park in 1947. Run at one mile 1982-86 and 1993. Run on the turf in 1993. In 1921, Runstar finished first but was disqualified. In 1950, Win or Lose won, but was disqualified several days after the race when it was found he carried an incorrect weight assignment.
