The LONG ISLAND Handicap was open to both genders, ages three and up, prior to 1972. Run on the dirt at Jamaica Race Course prior to 1959. Ran at 1 5/8 miles 1956-58; at 1 1/16 miles 1973-77; at 1 3/16 miles in 1959, 1961, 1963-67, and 1970-71; at one mile in 1972; at 1 3/8 miles in 1960, 1962, 1968-69, and 1989. Contested at one mile on the main track in 1972 and on the main track at 1 3/8 miles in 1997 and 2000.
Run at Belmont in 1960, 1962, 1968-69, 1975-77, and 1990-93. Run in two divisions in 1959, 1962, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1985, 1990, and 1998.
