The Stewards' Corner
Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - December 7, 2013
Race 6: Steward’s Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection: Pablo Morales, the jockey of # 7 Vagarious, lodged an objection against the winner, # 6 Deceived (Irad Ortiz, Jr.) for interference at the start.
# 6 breaks sharper than # 7 and as a result drops over filling that gap. # 7 is pinched back. # 6 goes on to win by several lengths, with # 7 finishing third, one length behind # 1.
In the judgment of the stewards, the incident at the start did not alter the finish of the race. The race was declared official as is.
