The Stewards' Corner
Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - March 8, 2012
RACE 3: Steward’s Inquiry into the stretch run:
Inside the 1/16 pole, # 2 Strategic Sue (R. Curatolo) checks behind # 6 Skiddles n’ Bob (C. Velasquez) and # 1 Number One Cherry (I. Ortiz, Jr.).
# 2 is advancing with the intent to pass between those rivals, but there was no room for him to continue. In the judgment of the stewards, the action of # 2 contributed to the incident and there was no reason for further action. The race was declared official as is.
RACE 8: Stewards inquiry and jockeys objection from the rider of the # 3 Mount Karakorum ( J Rodriguez ) for alleged interference going into the 1st turn against the # 1 Bernie the Maestro (D Cohen).Going into the first turn the # 3 has to check due to pressure from the # 1. After reviewing the video and in the judgment of the Stewards this did not alter the final placing. The race is official as is.
