Jockey Edgar S. Prado won his 6,000 race on Sunday, February 10 when he guided Sumphin to victory in the 6th race at Gulfstream Park. Edgar grew up in a racing family in Peru where he became a leading rider before heading to Florida in 1986. He became a regular on the New York cicuit in 1999 and quickly became a leading rider here. His NYRA victories include winning the 2002 Belmont Stakes on long shot Sarava, the 2004 Belmont Stakes and Travers on Birdstone, the 2000 Woodward and Suburban on Lemon Drop Kid, the 2006 Metropolitan on Silver Tree and many, many more important stakes. Edgar Prado also became nationally known as the regular rider of the ill-fated Barbaro. |
