Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. REQUEST (dark bay or brown colt, Dynaformer—Shades of Grace) is out of a placed half-sister to Fortitude, who won the Grade 3 Belmont Breeders’ Cup Handicap on the turf. Shades of Grace has produced one winner from four starters. That runner, Blue Right By, won five races on the dirt and was unplaced in his lone turf try.

SOCIAL AFFAIR (bay colt, Giant’s Causeway—Dancinginmydreams, by Seeking the Gold) is a half-brother to Dancing Forever, victorious in the Grade 1 Manhattan Handicap and third in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf. Their dam was second in the Grade 1 Matron as a 2-year-old and is a full-sister to Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Heavenly Prize (Grade 1 wins: Frizette, Alabama, Gazelle, Beldame, Apple Blossom, Hempstead Handicap, Go for Wand, John A. Morris) and Grade 1 Matron heroine Oh What a Windfall.

JOHNNY FOOTBALL (bay colt, Colonel John—Sweet November, by Storm Cat) is out of an unplaced half-sister to Grade 1 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash victor Richter Scale and Outperformance, who took the Grade 3 Hill Prince on the turf. Sweet November has produced three winners (one on the turf) from four starters.

SHADOW BANKING (dark bay or brown colt, Harlan’s Holiday—Rietondale, by Dynaformer) is out of an unraced full-sister to Dynaforce, who won the Grade 1 Beverly D. and Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational and annexed a listed stakes in France. Rietondale also is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Cetewayo (Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap, Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap), Grade 2 winner Bowman Mill (Grade 2 Sky Classic, also was second in the Grade 1 Hollywood Turf Cup) and minor stakes winner Ntombi. All three foals out of Rietdonale to race have won on the grass, including multiple stakes-placed Profiteroles and Stormy Len, recently second in the Grade 1 Secretariat.
