Forbes' Firsters

Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. MENDOCINO JOE (dark bay or brown colt, Malibu Moon—Right Place, by Petionville) is out of a winning full-sister to Runaway Model, who won the Grade 2 Alcibiades and Grade 2 Golden Rod as a 2-year-old. She also earned Grade 1 placings in the Ashland and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Mambo Train, a half-brother to Right Place, won the Turf Paradise Derby and placed in two graded stakes. Right Place, a daughter of listed stakes-winning 2-year-old Ticket to Houston, posted a maiden victory at Delaware Park. Her only other foal of racing age, Right Charlie, has won a single race in three starts.
