Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. Many of history’s best horses have commenced their careers in New York, and Forbes’ Firsters will help fans find the stars of tomorrow as they head postward for the first time.

HIS FREEDOM REIGNS (bay colt, Grand Slam—Saoirse, by Cure the Blues) is a half-brother to Hide and Chic, a sprinter who won the Grade 3 Royal North on the turf and the Grade 3 Seaway Stakes over the all-weather, and on the dirt won a minor stakes at Calder Race Course and was second in the Grade 1 Test; and Autobahn Girl, who won two stakes at the Fair Grounds (one on the dirt and one on the turf) and a single stakes at Tampa Bay Downs (dirt). His Freedom Rings also is a half-brother to two-time stakes-placed Saoirse Cat and Seasoned Warrior, third in the Grade 2 Matron. Their dam was a sprinter who won four stakes, including the Grade 3 Chicago Breeders’ Cup Handicap.

INNOVATION ECONOMY (dark bay or brown colt, Dynaformer—Somerset West, Gone West) is a half-brother to Seaspeak, who garnered the Grade 3 Dallas Turf Cup Handicap at Lone Star Park. All three foals out of Somerset West to race have won on the turf. Somerset West herself captured two races on the grass and is a full-sister to two-time graded-placed turfer De Aar and a half-sister to eight additional black-type earners, including Cetewayo (winner of the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Invitational and Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup Handicap), Bowman Mill (winner of the Grade 2 Sky Classic and second in the Grade 1 Hollywood Turf Cup), and Dynaforce (winner of the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational and Grade 1 Beverly D.)
