Forbes' Firsters

Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. Many of history’s best horses have commenced their careers in New York, and Forbes’ Firsters will help fans find the stars of tomorrow as they head postward for the first time.

DENN PIPER (2yo dark bay/brown colt, Student Council—Lucky Pipit, by Key of Luck) looks to become the fourth winner from as many foals to race out of his dam, who as a 2-year-old in England won a listed stakes winner and was Group 2 placed. All three of her previous foals to race have won exclusively on dirt or on an all-weather surface.

QEYAAS (2yo bay colt, Haafhd—Shawahid, by A.P. Indy) is the third foal and second to race out of his dam, an unraced half-sister to Ghanaati, who won the Group 1 English 1000 Guineas and Group 1 Coronation. Rumoush, another half-sister to Shawahid, won a listed stakes and was third in the Group 1 Epsom Oaks, while Mawatheeq, a half-brother, took a Group 3 and was second in the Group 1 Champion Stakes.

ELMUTAHID (2yo dark bay/brown colt, Street Cry—Alwajeeha, by Dixieland Band) is the first foal out of the 2008 Grade Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup heroine. Both of Alwajeeha’s half-siblings are winners. Rajjaas, a half-brother, won his lone start, a Saratoga maiden special weight for 2-year-olds on dirt. Tanaami, a half-sister, also won her debut, taking a Newmarket maiden event as a 3-year-old.
