Forbes' Firsters

Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. Many of history’s best horses have commenced their careers in New York, and Forbes’ Firsters will help fans find the stars of tomorrow as they head postward for the first time.

LIVE LIVELY (2yo dark bay/brown filly, Medaglia d’Oro—Glacken’s Gal, by Smoke Glacken) is the second foal out of her dam, who was unbeaten in her brief career, breaking her maiden in late May of her 2-year-old year and taking Belmont’s Astoria by two lengths one month later. Out of stakes-placed runner Lady Diplomat, Glacken’s Gal is a half-sister to City Dweller, winner of a listed stakes at Hawthorne, and Banker’s Buy, who captured Belmont’s restricted Reno Miss South Shore Stakes last July.

SEASONED WARRIOR (2yo bay filly, Majestic Warrior—Saoirse, by Cure the Blues) is a half-sister to Hide and Chic, who won the Grade 3 Royal North on turf and Grade 3 Seaway on Polytrack at Woodbine and was third on dirt in Saratoga’s Grade 1 Test, and Autobahn Girl, who took three minor stakes at the Fair Grounds and Tampa Bay Downs. Autobahn Girl is by A.P. Indy, the sire of Majestic Warrior. Saoirse was also a black-type winner, capturing the Grade 3 Chicago Handicap and three other sprint stakes, and is a half-sister to Grade 2 Adirondack heroine More Happy.

FLY BYE POMEROY (2yo bay colt, Pomeroy—Fly Bye Dancer, by Fire Dancer) is a half-brother to Asi Asi, who won a minor stakes at Calder as a 2-year-old. All six of Fly Bye Pomeroy’s foals to race are winners.

ONETWENTYEIGHT (2yo chestnut colt, Discreet Cat—Box of Joy, by Concerto) is a half-brother to Tackleberry, whose five stakes wins include scores in last year’s Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship and Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap. Trippin Star, a half-sister to Onetwentyeight, was stakes placed. Box of Joy, a half-sister to Grade 1 Super Derby winner Outofthebox, has produced total foals, all winners.
