Forbes' Firsters

Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. STATUS (chestnut filly, Big Brown—Backseat Rhythm, by El Corredor) is the first foal out of her dam, who as a 2-year-old finished second in the Grade 1 Frizette and third in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on the dirt. She was switched to the grass as a 3-year-old, winning the Grade 1 Garden City and Grade 2 Lake Placid. At 4, she took the Grade 3 Hillsborough on the grass.

TOUCH THE STAR (chestnut filly, Tapit—Willstar, by Nureyev) is a half-sister to Etoile Montante, who captured the Group 1 Prix de la Foret in France and won the Grade 2 Palomar Handicap and was Grade 1 placed in the United States. Their dam, who has produced six winners from 10 starters, is a winning half-sister to Hometown Queen, adirt runner who won a listed stakes and placed in three Grade 1 events; and turf filly Revasser, who took the Grade 2 Tidal Handicap, finished third in the Grade 1 Santa Barbara Handicap, and placed in group stakes in France and Italy. Touch the Star’s third dam is Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Chris Evert.
