Big Apple Babies

Big Apple Babies is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. Many of history’s best horses have commenced their careers in New York, and Big Apple Babies will help fans find the stars of tomorrow as they head postward for the first time.

CHARMING EYES (bay filly, Midas Eyes—Charming Mandate, by Full Mandate) is the first foal out of her dam, who won seven of 22 starts. She was unplaced in her lone start on the turf. A half-sister to Charming Mandate, Amazing Anna, won three of 30 starts and was unplaced in three turf tries.

BURNDOWNTHETOWN (dark bay or brown filly, City Zip—Riotous Miss, by Brief Ruckus) is a full-sister to Gitchee Goomie, who won the Grade 3 Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap and four other turf stakes, and was third in the Grade 1 Garden City. Their dam, who on the grass won 13 races and was second in a restricted stakes at Calder, has produced three winners (all turf winners) from five total starters.

TAKEOFF YOUR HAT (gray/roan filly, Cosmonaut—Serene Ditty, by Unbridled’s Song) is out of a mare who won a single race on the dirt. Serene Ditty is a half-sister to English Group 2 winner Mutaahab; Covering Ground, who captured a restricted stakes on the turf at Colonial Downs; and Courtly Jazz, who took the Ralph M. Hinds on the dirt at Fairplex and placed in a pair of turf stakes. Serene Ditty has produced two winners (both on turf) from five starters.
