Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. GINABLU (bay filly, Bluegrass Cat—Just a Ginny, by Go for Gin) is a half-sister to four stakes winners, including turf runner Logic Way, who in the United States won the Mohawk Handicap for New York-breds and was second in the Grade 2 W.L. McKnight Handicap. After being sent overseas, he won the non-black-type His Highness The Emir’s Trophy in Qatar. The other stakes winners out of Just a Ginny are Big Truck, who took the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby, Puerto Rican stakes winner Be a Ginny, and Marketway, who captured a stakes at Hastings Park. Just a Ginny herself won two races on the dirt and one on the turf.

WALK CLOSE (bay filly, Tapit—Spring Awakening, by In Excess) is out of a mare who won two stakes in Southern California as a 2-year-old and was second in Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, all over synthetic surfaces. Spring Awakening, a half-sister to turf stakes winner Cat’s Cat, has one other foal of racing age, Oxford Babes, who was third in an Indiana Downs turf race in her only start to date.
