Brown appears to have stranglehold on juvenile turf stakes

Trainer Chad Brown will send out a fleet of well-meant horses to contest Sunday's Grade 3, $200,000 Miss Grillo and Grade 3, $200,000 Pilgrim for 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles on the Belmont Park turf.

50 years ago, Kelso won his fifth straight Jockey Club Gold Cup

First run in 1919, the Jockey Club Gold Cup was, William Robertson wrote in The History of Thoroughbred Racing in America, “as definitive a test of intrinsic class as there is in the United States.” Man o’ War was among those who counted the race on their resumes, as did Gallant Fox, Citation and Nashua and more than a dozen Horse of the Year winners.

V. E. Day, Tonalist breeze on training track for G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup

A pair of Grade 1-winning 3-year-olds turned in separate five-furlong breezes on the Belmont Park training track on Monday, with Travers winner V. E. Day covering the distance in 1:00.69 and Belmont Stakes victor Tonalist being clocked in 1:00.09.
