NYRA to Host Inaugural Spring Media Day at Belmont Park
By Nailah Ellis Timberlake
On Saturday June 1st, The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), will host a Inaugural Spring Media Day at Belmont Park.
The event will provide non-racing media a comprehensive introduction to the New York horse racing industry with an exciting day of high profile races and events at Belmont Park. Throughout the day, guests will have the opportunity to meet many of NYRA’s leading jockeys, trainers and owners while partaking in on-track activities such as Big Apple Showcase Day, the Belmont Farmer’s Market and the Jockey Legends Autograph Signing.
The event will begin at 12 p.m. with lunch in the Turf & Field Room on the fourth floor of the clubhouse, followed by a Handicapping 101 lesson by NYRA TV Analyst, Eric Donovan and a visit to the paddock to see the horses being saddled before a race and a winner’s circle photo.
"We are delighted to show off our sport and one of the most beautiful racetracks in the world to a group of media professionals not familiar with the excitement of a day at the races and the multi-billion-dollar agribusiness that it fuels," said Eric Wing, Director of Communications & Media Relations for NYRA. "By reaching out beyond the realm of traditional, industry media, we hope to nurture greater appreciation for--and coverage of--thoroughbred racing here in New York and around the country."
