The FORT MARCY HANDICAP is named after the Rokeby Stable’s 1970 Horse of the Year and Turf Champion. In 75 starts, the Elliot Burch trained gelding compiled a record of 21-18-4 for total earnings of $1,109,791. Fort Marcy won 16 stakes, all on the grass, and was the first strictly turf performer to be acclaimed Horse of the Year.

The FORT MARCY HANDICAP was run at seven furlongs in 1975. Not run in 1976-77. Run in two divisions in 1975, 1978, 1981, and 1987. For four-year-olds and up in 1980. Run at Aqueduct 1975-80, 1982-86, and 1989-2008. Run at Belmont Park in 1981, 1987, 1988, and 2009-present. In 1998, adverse weather conditions forced the Fort Marcy to be run on the main track at one mile.
