GALLANT BLOOM, a King Ranch homebred who raced was the 2-year-old filly champion of 1968. She was trained by Max Hirsch until his death in 1969. After that, she was trained by Max’s son, Buddy Hirsch, until her retirement in 1970.

The GALLANT BLOOM HANDICAP was run at the distance of six furlongs in 1994. Changed to 6 1/2 furlongs in 1995.
