The HILL PRINCE is named for the horse owned by Christopher T. Chenery. Bred at the Meadow Stud in Virginia, Hill Prince was the top two year old of 1949, when he won six of seven races. At three, he was beaten by Middleground in the Kentucky Derby but avenged that loss in the Preakness and also beat Middleground in three other stakes. Hill Prince was Horse of the Year that season, during which he defeated older champion Noor in the two-mile Jockey Club Gold Cup and filly champion Next Move in the Sunset Handicap. Although a cannon bone fracture limited his 4-year-old season to six races, Hill Prince was voted a divisional championship for the third time. Hill Prince won 17 of 30 races and earned $422,140.

Run at Aqueduct in 1979, 1980, and 1982. Run in two divisions in 1982. Run at various distances on the turf since its inception in 1975, most recently one mile 2006-present.

In 1975, Annie’s Brat finished first, but was disqualified and placed second. In 1992, Casino Magistrate finished first but was disqualified and placed second.
