Inaugurated in 1980, the MISS GRILLO is named for the horse that ran for the Mill River Stable and was trained by H. A. Luro. The Argentine-bred MISS GRILLO was a distance runner who won the 2 ½-mile Pimlico Cup for two consecutive years.
Run at Belmont Park 1980-94, in 1996, and 1998-2000. Run at Aqueduct in 1995, 1997, 2001, and 2002. Run on the main track in 1986. Run in two divisions in 1988. Run at 1 1/8 miles prior to 1991, and then again 1997-2006. Run at 1 1/16 miles 2007-08 and 2010-present. In 2009, the race was transferred from the turf to the main track and run at one mile. Run on the dirt in 1996.
In 1990, Seewillo finished first, but was disqualified and placed second.
