The PILGRIM is named for the 1919 winner of the Remsen Stakes. Pilgrim was owned by Joseph E. Widener. Run in two divisions in 1979 and 1983. Run on the main track in 1983 and 2006. In 2009, the race was scheduled for the turf but was transferred to the main track and contested at one mile. Run at 1 1/8 miles prior to 1991, in 1995, and 1997-2006. Run at 1 1/16 miles 1991-94, in 1996, 2007-08, and 2010-present. Run at Belmont Park 1979-2000. Run at Aqueduct in 2001. Returned to Belmont in 2002.
