Stewards Corner

Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Click on the links below to read those explanations.

Race Decisions - June 14, 2012

RACE 9: Steward’s Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection into the stretch run: R. Maragh, the rider of # 10 Leroidessioux, lodged an objection for alleged interference against the winner, # 6 Side Party Ralph (A. Smith).

In the stretch, # 6 drifts out, carrying # 10 out as well.  Inside the 1/8 pole, # 6 shifts out under a left-handed whip, bumping # 10.  Those two continue to the wire with # 10 beaten by less than a head margin.

In the judgment of the stewards, the drift by # 6 and the subsequent contact approaching the 1/16 pole was sufficient to alter the finish of the race.
# 6 is disqualified from first and placed second.
