Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - June 29, 2014
Race 6: Steward’s Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection: Abel Lezcano, the rider of # 7 Bedouin Now, lodged an objection against # 2 Sacred Ground (Angel Arroyo) for alleged interference in the stretch.
Approaching the 1/16 pole, # 2 shifts in while passing # 7 with # 5 Mr. Espresso (Larry Mejias) drifting out slightly and making light contact with # 7.
# 7 checks as a result of the two actions and continues to finish third, approximately two lengths behind the leaders.
The objection was disallowed and the result was declared official as is.
