Stewards Corner

Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Click on the links below to read those explanations.

Race Decisions - June 7, 2012

RACE 7: Steward’s Inquiry into the start and at the 1/4 pole.  There was also a jockey’s objection: E. Castro, the rider of # 8 Foolish Tiger, lodged an objection against the winner, # 2 Megalithic (R. Maragh) for alleged interference at the ¼ pole.

Start: # 1 Indigene Charm (R. Napravnik) ducks in shortly after the break, unseating the jockey.  No other horses were involved and no action was warranted.

In the vicinity of the 3/8 pole, # 7 Tycoon Cat (J. Ortiz) moves up in tight quarters with # 2 on the outside and # 6 Logical Order (I. Ortiz, Jr.) on the rail in front.  # 8 must steady behind # 7 at this point and moves to the outside to pass horses at the top of the stretch. Continuing to the ¼ pole, # 7 moves up attempting to go inside of # 2 with # 6 inside on the rail.  There is no room for this action and contact between # 7 and # 6 causes # 6 to fall.

The objection was disallowed and the race made official as is.
