Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. RACE 8: Steward’s Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection:
D. Cohen, the rider of # 6, Bizzy Caroline, lodged an objection against # 2 Hessonite (J. Lezcano). Approaching the ¼ pole, # 2 advances inside of # 6, making contact and checking along the hedge. # 2 has no racing room and must steady again, then moves outside, passing # 6 in the final stages.
Also, in the vicinity of the ¼ pole, # 8 Nahrain (J. Velazquez) shifts out making light contact with # 1 Dream Peace (J. Leparoux). Those horses race closely through the stretch, with # 1 moving ahead of # 8 at the 1/8 pole and # 8 then advancing inside to the lead and win in the final 1/6 mile. # 1 finished third.
The objection was disallowed and the race was declared official as is.
