FFORBES’ FIRSTERS FOR WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25
RACE 9, TWO-YEAR-OLD FILLIES, 1 1/16th MILES, TURF, 5:30 P.M. EXCITED (2yo bay filly), by Giant’s Causeway, is the first foal out of Path of Thunder to make it to the races. Path of Thunder, an overnight stakes winner, is a full-sister to Spain, who won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff and five other graded stakes and earned over $3.5 million, then a North American record for earnings by a filly or mare. Those two are half-sisters to two males who did their best running on the turf: Puerto Banus, winner of the Grade 2 Sunset Handicap and Grade 2 San Luis Obispo Handicap, and Fantastic Spain, who took the Grade 3 Golden Gate Fields Breeders’ Cup. Owner: Michael B. Tabor
WEAR RED (2yo bay filly) is a half-sister to Eskendereya, the dominant victor of this year’s Grade 2 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth and Grade 1 Wood Memorial. Eskendereya was considered to be the favorite for the Kentucky Derby, but a soft-tissue injury to his left foreleg forced his retirement. Wear Red is also a half-sister to Balmont, who in England won the Group 1 Middle Park and Group 2 Gimcrack as a juvenile. Their dam, Albebaran Light, is a half-sister to Grade 2 Laz Barrera Memorial winner Blazonry. A homebred, Wear Red is from the first crop of Henny Hughes, who has been represented by four winners to date. Owner: Sanford R. Robertson
TRIUNE (2yo bay filly) is out of Triple Act, who as a yearling sold for $2.2 million and is a half-sister to Desert Hero, winner of the Grade 2 San Rafael and third in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, and Corinthian, who captured the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap and the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. By E Dubai, Triune was a $29,000 Keeneland September yearling. Owner: Ben P. Walden, Jr. & Pat Madden
ROYAL ORDER (2yo dark bay or brown filly) is a half-sister to four horses with black type, including Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen winner Our New Recruit. They are out of Delta Danielle, who placed in stakes at Woodbine, Fort Erie, and Detroit Race Course. Royal Order, by Medaglia d’Oro, was acquired for $50,000 at Keeneland in September.
