FORBES’ FIRSTERS FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST 27

RACE 5, TWO-YEAR-OLD FILLIES,  1 1/16th MILES, TURF, 3:13 P.M.

EXCITED (2yo bay filly) was cross-entered in a similar race on August 25, but was scratched in favor of this race. By Giant’s Causeway, Excited is the first foal out of Path of Thunder to make it to the races. Path of Thunder, an overnight stakes winner, is a full-sister to Spain, who won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff and five other graded stakes and earned over $3.5 million, then a North American record for earnings by a filly or mare. Those two are half-sisters to two males who did their best running on the turf: Puerto Banus, winner of the Grade 2 Sunset Handicap and Grade 2 San Luis Obispo Handicap, and Fantastic Spain, who took the Grade 3 Golden Gate Fields Breeders’ Cup.

PARTING WORDS (2yo dark bay or brown filly), scratched from a comparable event on August 22, will attempt to become the first winner for freshman sire Artie Schiller, winner of the 2005 Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile. Out of Lost Love, a half-sister to two stakes-placed runners, Parting Words is kin to I Love Silver, a listed stakes winner who finished third in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby and Grade 1 Malibu and earned $437,142; The Max, a two-time black-type winner at Assiniboia Downs; and Chosen Chief, who placed in seven stakes, including two Grade 3 events.

HOT FEVER (2yo dark bay or brown filly), a hombered by Mr. Greeley, is the first foal out of the unraced mare Last Fever to make it to the races. Last Fever is a full-sister to Raging Fever, who as a 2-year-old won the Grade 2 Adirondack, Grade 1 Matron, and Grade 1 Frizette, and later in her career captured the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Handicap and four other graded stakes. Their full-brothers Stormin Fever and Roaring Fever are also black-type winners, with the former having won the Grade 3 Sport Page Handicap and twice finished second in the Grade 1 Vosburgh, and the latter having annexed an overnight stakes at the Meadowlands and placed in two Grade 3 events.
