On opening day at Saratoga Race Course in 2011, Stonestreet Stables sent out My Miss Aurelia, whom they owned in partnership with George Bolton, to a debut victory in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight. My Miss Aurelia went on to win three graded stakes in 2011, including the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, en route to being named Champion Two-Year-Old Filly.

Trainer Christophe Clement, who in recent years has won major turf races for older horses like the Arlington Million, Beverly D., Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational, Man o’ War, Shadwell Turf Mile, Sword Dancer Invitational, and Woodford Reserve Manhattan, continued his strong run with 2-year-olds during the 2012 Belmont spring/summer meet when Funfair debuted a 3 ½-length winner on the inner turf course.

Agave Kiss

Flying Zee Stables was well represented in this year’s Bertram F. Bongard on Saturday at Belmont Park, finishing first with Night Maneuver, third with The Prize Fighter, fourth with Western Tryst, and 12th with Goodtime Boy. Their best performance on the card, however, might have come from Agave Kiss, who led all the way to register a 6 ¼-length debut victory against 12 New York-bred maiden fillies.​

When Kiaran McLaughlin entered Alpha in Saturday’s seventh race, the trainer thought he had picked a difficult spot for the colt to make his debut. Not only was the race seven furlongs, it also featured well-regarded horses who had the benefit of a previous start.
