Kelly is the trainer of the legendary Evening Attire, the powerful gray closer that ran at NYRA tracks a total of 58 times (25 at Aqueduct, 21 at Belmont Park, and 12 at Saratoga) including 14 victories. Evening Attire’s most prestigious win came in the 2002 Jockey Club Gold Cup (GI) at Belmont Park.

Career Highlights:

  • 2002: New York legend Evening Attire won the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.
  • 1992: Sultry Song shipped to California to win the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup in June. Both horse and trainer survived the earthquake that hit the following day
  • 1986: Kelly was voted Outstanding Trainer of New York-breds by the New York Thoroughbred Breeders Association
  • 1982: In his first trip to the Kentucky Derby, Kelly saddled Laser Light to a second place finish
