Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. Many of history’s best horses have commenced their careers in New York, and Forbes’ Firsters will help fans find the stars of tomorrow as they head postward for the first time.

ROBERTO GATO (chestnut colt, Zensational—Cat News, by Storm Cat) is a half-brother to Publication, who won the Grade 2 Arlington-Washington Futurity as a 2-year-old and placed in five graded stakes, including the Grade 1 Triple Bend Handicap, between the ages of 4 and 8. All six foals out of Cat News to race have won.

MOSLER (dark bay/brown colt, War Front—Gold Vault, by Arch) is a half-brother to Contested, who won last year’s Grade 1 Acorn and Grade 1 Test. Their dam is a winning full-sister to stakes-placed Acquilea and a half-sister to Grade 1 King’s Bishop and Grade 1 Forego hero Pomeroy.

MACK MILLER (bay colt, Bernstein—Pennyhill, by Saint Ballado) is a half-brother to three stakes winners, including Electrify, who won eight stakes, including the Grade 3 Fred W. Hooper Handicap. Electrify raced primarily in dirt routes and was off the board in his lone turf start. Mack Miller’s siblings also include Cream Only, who captured a route stakes at Oaklawn Park, and sprinter Rothko, who has won the Grade 3 Aristides and finished second in the Grade 1 Malibu. Mack Miller’s second dam, Vennila Cream, won five stakes in Louisiana and also produced Grade 3 Toboggan Handicap victor Kazoo.

ALL CASH (chestnut colt, English Channel—Andover the Money, by Dynaformer) is a half-brother to California-bred stakes winners Spenditallbaby and Runforthemoneybaby. Spenditallbaby won two sprint stakes over the all-weather and placed in a pair of graded stakes on turf, while Runforthemoneybaby won a stakes and was Grade 1 placed over a synthetic surface and was stakes placed on turf. All five foals to race out of Andover the Money have won, including English Pound, a full-brother to All Cash who broke his maiden on grass.

Watch is a full-sister to turf stakes winner War Thief and dirt stakes winner Stop Watch. She is also a half-sister to turf stakes winners Prime Meridian and Remind.

TIGHTLY BRIDLED (bay colt, Unbridled’s Song—Winning Bet, by Dixie Union) looks to be the first winner for his dam, whose other foal to race has not won in four starts. His second dam is Grade 1 Hempstead Handicap winner Fantastic Find, who has thrown eight winners from ten foals to race, including multiple Grade 1 winner Finder’s Fee and the stakes-placed colts New Way and Treasure Island.

KING CYRUS (bay colt, Bellamy Road—Queen of Empire, by Empire Maker) is the first foal to race from his unraced dam. King Cyrus’ third dam is Dispute, who captured three Grade 1s – the Kentucky Oaks, Gazelle Handicap, and Beldame Stakes – at age three, along with runner-up finishes in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes and Ruffian Handicap. Dispute also won the Grade 1 Spinster Stakes in her four-year-old season.

SOUPERFAST (bay colt, Broken Vow—Playa Maya, by Arch) is a half-brother to 2010 Eclipse Champion Two-Year-Old Uncle Mo, who captured Grade 1 wins in both the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Champagne Stakes. All three of Playa Maya’s foals to race are winners, and one other foal aside from Uncle Mo won at age two. Playa Maya herself never finished off the board in six career starts, including stakes placings at Delta Downs and Ellis Park.

TEMPERS FLAIR (chestnut filly, Smart Strike—Cloudburst, by Storm Cat) looks to become the second winner from as many foals to race out of her dam, who won the Mardi Gras Stakes sprinting on the turf at the Fair Grounds. Cloudburst is a daughter of stakes winner Harbor Springs, who also produced Champion Two-Year-Old Male Boston Harbor, whose accomplishments included wins in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Grade 2 Breeders’ Futurity.

FIERCE BOOTS (bay filly, Tiznow—Shop Again, by Wild Again) is a half-sister to Power Broker, who won last year’s Grade 1 Front Runner and this year’s Easy Goer. On Sunday, Power Broker was a distant second to Verrazano in the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational. Fierce Boots’ dam won a stakes on the dirt at Remington Park and is a half-sister to Miss Shop, who captured the Grade 1 Personal Ensign; and Trappe Shot, who took the Grade 2 True North Handicap and placed in a pair of Grade 1 races.

GARZONI (bay filly, Bernardini—La Galerie, by Southern Halo) is out of a sprinter who won a Group 1 in Argentina and later added placings in the Grade 2 Genuine Risk Handicap and Grade 2 Distaff Handicap. La Galerie is a full-sister to multiple Argentine Group 1 winner Gouache and a half-sister to Argentine Group 1 winner Apeles. La Galerie has produced two winners from eight starters.

GUILTY VERDICT (bay filly, Medaglia d’Oro—Smuggler, by Unbridled) is out of the 2005 Champion Three-Year-Old Filly who won the Grade 1 Mother Goose and Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks. Smuggler is the only black type earner out of her dam, Champion Older Female and six-time Grade 1 winner Inside Information. Smuggler has yet to produce a winner from three starters.
