Forbes' Firsters

Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. Many of history’s best horses have commenced their careers in New York, and Forbes’ Firsters will help fans find the stars of tomorrow as they head postward for the first time.

COCONUT SHRIMP (2yo chestnut filly, Giant’s Causeway—Weekend Whim, by Distorted Humor) is the first foal out of his unraced dam, a full-sister to Grade 1 Haskell Invitational winner Any Given Saturday. A half-sister to Weekend Whim, Bohemian Lady, won the Grade 3 Cicada. Weekend Whim has no siblings who have won on turf.

JONATA (2yo chestnut filly, Proud Citizen—Romp and Stomp, by Olympio) is a half-sister to Pinch Pie, winner of a minor stakes on turf at Monmouth Park and third in the Grade 1 Alabama on dirt, and a pair of stakes-placed runners. Their dam, a winner on turf, is a half-sister to Volponi, who upset the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic and was a multiple graded stakes winner on grass.
