Forbes' Firsters

Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. Many of history’s best horses have commenced their careers in New York, and Forbes’ Firsters will help fans find the stars of tomorrow as they head postward for the first time.

SMITTENWITHKITTEN (2yo chestnut filly, Kitten’s Joy—Blush, by Menifee) is a full-sister to stakes winners William’s Kitten and Derby Kitten. As a 2-year-old, William’s Kitten won an off-the-turf edition of the Sunday Silence listed stakes at Louisiana Downs and was second in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club. He added a placing in the Grade 3 Holy Bull as a 3-year-old. Derby Kitten won a pair of stakes on Polytrack, including the Grade 2 Lexington and owns three black-type placings on turf.

SABEL BROWNE (2yo bay filly, Footstepsinthesand—Haute Volta, by Grape Tree Road) is a half-sister to Super Motiva, who won listed stakes in Italy at the ages of 2 and 3. Their dam, an unraced daughter of stakes-placed runner Land of Ivory, is a half-sister to Heart of Darkness, who captured the Group 1 National Stakes in Ireland.
