Forbes' Firsters

Forbes’ Firsters is a series that takes a glance at the pedigrees and sales histories of select 2-year-olds who are making their debuts in maiden special weight races at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, or Saratoga Race Course. Many of history’s best horses have commenced their careers in New York, and Forbes’ Firsters will help fans find the stars of tomorrow as they head postward for the first time.

PURPLE SKY (bay colt, Pulpit—Tessa Blue, by Awesome Again) is out of a mare who won the Grade 3 Indiana Oaks. Tessa Blue, a half-sister to listed stakes winner Inner Harbour, has produced one starter, Elite Warrior, who lone win has come in a maiden claiming race at Calder Race Course.

HONOR CODE (dark bay or brown colt, by A.P. Indy—Serena’s Cat, by Storm Cat) is a half-brother to Noble Tune, who has won the Grade 2 American Turf and Grade 3 Pilgrim and was second in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. Their dam won a turf sprint stakes at Monmouth Park and is a half-sister to Vocalised, a two-time Group 3 winner in England. Honor Code’s second dam is Serena’s Tune, who won listed stakes on dirt and turf, and his third dam is Hall of Famer Serena’s Song, who won 12 Grade 1 races between the ages of 2 and 4, including the Haskell Invitational Handicap against males.

MISCONNECT (gray/roan colt, Unbridled’s Song—Summer Raven, by Summer Squall) is a full-brother to Winslow Homer, who won the Grade 3 Holy Bull. Their dam captured the Grade 3 Tempted as a 2-year-old. Winslow Homer is her only winner from three starters.

ALL MY MEMORIES (bay colt, Elusive Quality—Regal Engagement, by Cat Thief) is out of a mare who won the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan. Regal Engagement’s only other foal to race is winless in five starts.

GOOD RESPONSE (dark bay or brown colt, Medaglia d’Oro—Any for Love, by Southern Halo) is out of an Argentine-bred who won that country’s Group 1 Premio Mil Guineas (Argentine 1000 Guineas) and was third in the Grade 3 Las Cienegas on the turf in the United States. All five of her foals to race have won, including Distorted Love, who was second in the Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap.
