Next to last on the turn, favored Kitten's Dumplings launched her trademark late rally to outkick Watsdachances in deep stretch and win the 18th running of the Grade 2, $200,000 Lake George for 3-year-old turf fillies on Wednesday at Saratoga Race Course, her third straight stakes victory.

Patiently handled by Joel Rosario, Kitten's Dumplings dropped in along the rail and sat a dozen lengths behind Midnight Watch as that one led the field of seven through opening fractions of 23.55 and 46.45 seconds. With Midnight Watch yielding to Tapicat at the top of the stretch, Kitten's Dumpling barreled up five-wide to grab the lead with 200 yards to go and hit the wire a half-length in front.

Her winning time was 1:42.21 for 1 1/16 miles over a firm turf course.

"I was a little far behind, but that's how she likes to run.," said Rosario, who is three-for-three aboard Ken and Sarah Ramsey's homebred daughter of Kitten's Joy. "We got the money. She has a really nice kick, but she can hang a little bit, so I'm always careful to time it. I was hoping they'd go quick in front, and my horse has a little bit of speed, but if you use her early she won't give it to you turning for home."

Winless in her first three starts of 2013, Kitten's Dumplings picked up her first victory of the year in May at Churchill Downs, when she was allowed to drop far off the early pace and rallied to take the Edgewood by 3 ¾ lengths. On June 15, also at Churchill, she came from 16 lengths back and finished full of run to win the Grade 3 Regret by 2 ¼ lengths.

"On paper it looked like there was plenty of pace," said winning trainer Michael Maker of the Lake George. "You can't change her running style, so it worked out well."

The 3-2 favorite, Kitten's Dumplings returned $5.00 for a $2 win bet and earned $120,000. Overall, she is 5-1-0 from 10 career starts, including a maiden victory at the Spa last summer, and has earned $433,262. Her next start, said Ken Ramsey, likely will  be the Grade 2 Woodford Reserve Lake Placid on August 18 at the Spa.

Watsdachances finished a neck in front of Tapicat, with Midnight Watch another 3 ¼ lengths back in fourth. Following her under the wire were Fab Flowers, Blossom's Trail, and Maximova.
