National Anthem: The all-women’s chorus Saratoga Soundtrack of Saratoga Springs, NY, performs the National Anthem in the winner’s circle at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday, August 3. The date marks the official 150th anniversary of the first organized four-day race meeting in Saratoga Springs, which commenced on August 3, 1863.

Cake_Cutting

Cake Cutting: The New York Racing Association, Inc. CEO and President Chris Kay (center) is joined in the winner’s circle by Saratoga 150 Chairman Charles Wait (left) and Saratoga 150 Honorary Chair John Hendrickson (right) to cut a custom made cake designed to replicate Saratoga Race Course. The one-of-a-kind cake was produced by Buddy Valastro of Carlo’s Bakery, the setting for the popular television series “Cake Boss.”

Cake: Representatives from The New York Racing Association, Inc. carry the specially-designed cake in honor of the 150th anniversary into the winner’s circle at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday, August 3. The spectacular replica cake of the Saratoga Race Course, designed by Buddy Valastro of Carlo’s Bakery, a.k.a. the “Cake Boss”, weighed approximately 300 pounds.

They are joined in the winner’s circle by members of the Saratoga 150 Committee and jockeys.

15K Win Wager: Kevin Brockley of Gansevoort, NY, (second from left) and his wife, Rachel, (left) join Saratoga 150 Honorary Chairs Marylou Whitney (second from right) and John Hendrickson (right) to watch the Grade 1, $750,000 Whitney Invitational Handicap in the winner’s circle at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday, August 3. Brockley was the first participant in the series of $15,000 win wager contests sponsored by Mrs. Whitney and Hendrickson as part of the Saratoga 150 celebration. Brockley placed his wager on morning line favorite and defending Whitney champion Fort Larned, who finished fifth.

Whitney Blanket: Ambassadors from the Saratoga 150 Committee hold the new horse blanket which was awarded to the winner of the Grade 1, $750,000 Whitney Invitational Handicap at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday, August 3. The custom-designed, 9-by-2 ½-foot horse blanket is a first time addition to the winner’s circle ceremony for the Whitney Invitational Handicap. Its assembly was spearheaded by Susan Lee Laing, who was responsible for designing the Travers horse blanket for 18 years. The blanket is held by ambassadors from the Saratoga 150 committee.
