Saratoga Race Course to Offer Walking Tours of Historic Venue for 2013 Season
By Eric Wing
The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced that it will offer front side tours of Saratoga Race Course during the 2013 meet. The tours will begin on Opening Day, Friday, July 19.
The approximately 45 minute walking tours will provide a historical overview of the facility and showcase a number of the property’s highlights, including the unique architecture, landscape and traditions that encompass the Spa.
The tours, which were discontinued in 2000, have been reinstated in celebration of the 150th anniversary season, which commemorates the first organized thoroughbred meet in Saratoga Springs in 1863.
“NYRA is proud to celebrate the 150th anniversary season by showcasing this historic venue through educational tours,” said NYRA Vice President of Hospitality, Guest Services and Group Sales Stephen Travers. “We hope the tours make a trip to Saratoga Race Course that much more enjoyable and memorable for longtime fans and new patrons alike.”
The tours will be led by experienced and tenured customer service staff, well-versed on the history and features of the historic property.
The walking tours will be held each racing day of the meet beginning Friday, July 19, with the exception of Travers Day, Saturday, August 24. Tours will be held in the morning at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and in the afternoon at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. The tours will depart from the Guest Services Information Booth located on the first floor of the grandstand. No tours will be offered when the track is dark on Tuesdays.
Tours will be available for $3 per person or $10 for a group of four. All tour participants will receive a free Saratoga Race Course commemorative item.
Reservations for tours are not required but are available by calling customer service at (518) 584-6200 ext. 4433 or in-person at the Guest Services Information Booth in the paddock, grandstand or clubhouse.
