Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - July 18, 2014
Race 6: Steward’s Inquiry into the start. At the break, # 2 Saluda (Shaun Bridgmohan) stumbles badly, unseating the rider. No other horses were involved, and no action was warranted. The race was declared Official as is.
Race 7: # 3 Tiz Sardonic Joe (Lanfranco Dettori) lost a shoe in the post parade. The horse was cleared to race by the track veterinarian.
As the shoe could not be reset, Tiz Sardonic Joe raced for “purse money only” and all wagers were refunded. # 3 finished second for purse money.
The official order of finish for wagering purposes: 8 – 2 – 6 - 4
