Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - August 5, 2013
Race 9: Steward’s Inquiry into the stretch run. In the vicinity of the 1/8 pole, #’s 2 Kissable (J. Velazquez) and # 3 Angel Terrace (J. Castellano) must check in traffic with pressure from the inside.
# 3 is attempting to shift out and pass # 6 Mystical Star (J. Lezcano) with # 2 close on the outside as # 6 shifts out. The winner, # 1 Qushchi (E. Prado) is passing sharply on the far outside at the time of the incident but maintains his position. In the judgment of the stewards, the incident did not alter the finish of the race.
The race was declared official as is.
