Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - August 6, 2010
RACE 5 - Steward’s Inquiry at the quarter pole, involving #2 Pelican Lake (S. Bridgmohan) on the inside of #7 She Wears the Best (E. Prado). In the judgment of the stewards, the contact between #2 and #7 in the vicinity of the quarter pole did not alter the finish of the race. The race is Official as is.
NYSRWB Rule 4035.2B A horse crossing another may be disqualified, if in the judgment of the stewards, it interferes with, impedes or intimidates another horse, or the foul altered the finish of the race, regardless of whether the foul was accidental, willful, or the result of careless riding. The stewards may also take into consideration mitigating factors, such as whether the impeded horse was partly at fault or the crossing was wholly caused by the fault of some other horse or jockey.
