Travers Day Draws 43,050; Figures Off Marginally From 2010

On a beautiful day that saw a dominating performance in the 142nd running of the Grade 1, $1 million Travers, attendance and handle, both on-track and all-sources, were off slightly from 2010 figures.

A crowd of 43,050 witnessed Stay Thirsty hold off Rattlesnake Bridge in the “Mid-summer Derby,” a decrease of 5.9 percent from last year’s attendance of 45,764 on hand for Afleet Express’ thrilling nose victory.

On-track handle for Saratoga’s races was $8,172,452, a decrease of 0.6 percent from last year’s total of $8,218,975.

When factoring in wagering downstate at Aqueduct Racetrack and the Belmont Café simulcast center, on-track handle totaled $8,839,281, a decrease of 0.5 percent from last year’s total of $8,844,774.

Total all sources handle was $33,017,384, down 2.6 percent from last year’s $33,890,996.
The pool for today’s $1 Million Guaranteed All Graded Stakes Pick 4 was $1,650,587, up 11.2 percent over last year’s pool of $1,484,659.
