The 2009 logo for Saratoga Race Course, which opens its historic gates for the 141st time on July 29, will be featured on two of The New York Racing Association, Inc.’s most popular promotions, the short-sleeved tee-shirt giveaway on Sunday, Aug. 16, and the long-sleeved tee-shirt giveaway on Sunday, Aug. 23. The black-and-red logo, earmarked by the traditional red umbrella of Saratoga Race Course, was designed by Eric Johnston of Art Design Studios [www.artdesignstudios.net]. The 36-day meet, which runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 7, is highlighted by the Grade 1, $1 million Shadwell Travers for three-year-olds. This year’s 140th Shadwell Travers will be run on Saturday, August 29 and televised nationally to 98 million households on ESPN and worldwide on ESPN International. The “Midsummer Derby” is one of 45 stakes races run at the Spa, which was named one of the world’s greatest sporting venues by Sports Illustrated.
