The British are coming, the British are coming! And where else but to Saratoga? Race Course, that is. On Wednesdays through Saturdays as well as selected Mondays, fans can “Breakfast with the Brits”, munching on scones and watching and wagering on thoroughbred racing simulcasts from such legendary courses as Newmarket, Goodwood, Sandown and York. Starting on Saratoga Opening Day, July 25, fans can enter this little slice of Merrie Olde England through the horsemen’s entrance on Union Avenue. There is no passport required to the UK simulcast area and free past performance programs will be available! First race post time for “Racing Across the Pond” is approximately 8:45 a.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays beginning opening day, July 25, and again on Monday, August 27. On August 6 and August 13, post time for the first race from Carlisle and Thirsk is around 1 p.m. Unfamiliar with European-style racing? On Saturday, July 28, British racing expert Scott Finley will host a free “English Racing 101” seminar for neophytes from 8–9 a.m. in the area. Tip sheets and informational guides are also available free of charge, and programs can be picked up for free in the traditional “Breakfast at Saratoga” area, local restaurants, and pubs. Fans who wish to stay and wager in the area as the traditional “Breakfast at Saratoga” crowd is cleared out at 10 a.m. can purchase a wristband for $3, which also allows them to remain at the track through the day. When the gates officially re-open at 11 a.m., all patrons will be able to enter the UK area without a wristband. ![]() |
