The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has announced that it will offer a $350,000 Guaranteed Late Pick 4 Saturdays at Belmont Park during the 2009 Fall Championship Meet. The meet begins on Friday, September 11, with the first Guaranteed Late Pick 4 offered on Saturday, September 12. Although NYRA offers daily Pick 4’s on races 2-5 and the final four races of the day, the $350,000 guarantee applies only to the Late Pick 4 on Saturdays. The Late Pick 4 is a $1 minimum wager in which the bettor must correctly pick the winners of the last four races on the card, usually beginning with race 7 on Belmont Park Saturdays. By guaranteeing the wager for $350,000, NYRA will supplement the difference if the total wagering pool for the Saturday Late Pick 4 is less than $350,000. On Jockey Club Gold Cup Day, Saturday, October 3, pending regulatory approval, NYRA will offer a $500,000 Guaranteed All-Grade 1 Pick 4 that will include the Grade 1, $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational and the Grade 1, $600,000 Beldame, which will become the Grade 1, $1 million TVG-Betfair Beldame if the starting gate includes both Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta, two of the most successful female runners in racing history. During the 2009 Saratoga Meet, NYRA offered a $500,000 Guaranteed Late Pick 4 on Saturdays. There were five Saturdays during the Saratoga meet that offered the wager, with an average pool size of $731,747. During the 2009 Belmont Park Spring/Summer Meet, NYRA offered a $350,000 Guaranteed Late Pick 4 on Saturdays. There were eleven Saturdays during the Belmont meet that offered the wager, with an average pool size of $424,736. During the 2009 Aqueduct Spring Meet, NYRA offered a $250,000 Guaranteed Late Pick 4 on Saturdays. There were eleven Saturdays in total during the Aqueduct meet that offered the wager, with an average pool size of $331,340. |
