The New York Racing Association's Claiming Championship series returns for the fifth year on Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack with 10 stakes worth $620,000.

The Claiming Championship is open to horses which have started for a claiming price in 2018 or 2019. The 10-race race series, named after some of the most popular claiming horses to run at the Big A, features races at distances from six furlongs to 1 3/8 miles.

"It's exciting and I think a lot of people, including myself, have purchased and/or claimed horses with the idea that this is something to look forward to," trainer Linda Rice said.

Added trainer Jeremiah Englehart, who will be competing in the Claiming Championship for the fifth year:"The Claiming Championship is a phenomenal for owners and trainers. It gives people the ability to run their horses in starter stakes without the worry of concern of being claimed which is more likely to happen as they move up. I'm a supporter of it and I think NYRA has done a good job in improving it yearly."
